Still Waiting
November 18, 2008 by Brian
We’re still waiting to see if a convicted criminal was re-elected in Alaska.

At this point Republican incumbent Ted Stevens is behind Democratic challenger Mark Begich by just over a thousand votes. Even if he’s able to pull off a victory, Stevens still faces an expulsion vote in the Senate. His Republican colleagues put off a preliminary step toward one Tuesday — waiting to see what happens in Alaska.

If Alaska votes him out, this spares his old friends and enemies in the Senate the burden of kicking him in the junk with their vote, or his releasing to the public anything he had on those who would have to vote against him. As the senior Senator, I’m sure he has very big dirt piles on people.
They called it. Stevens, the convicted felon, is out. The other guy won. The Senate now has 58 democrat seats…still waiting on Georgia and Minnesota to see if democrats will get to 60 in the Senate.
My guess now is Stevens will never get as far as a register number before he steps on a rainbow (or a bridge to nowhere) and makes the final role call.
Last week in the Senate, Ted Steven gave a farwell address after loosing the Alaska Senate race. For what is probably the first time in history, the entire Senate gave a federal convicted felon a standing olvation. Thanks for your service, Senator.
So there IS honor among thieves…
