incongruence (plural incongruences)
- a want of congruence; incongruity.
- out of place, absurd
I saw one of those big four wheel drive pick up trucks the other day. It had a skull and cross bones on the tailgate and the name of a construction company painted on the doors. The license plate read “FUZZY1” which seemed out of place, absurd.
I remember seeing a plastic flower store in Big Stone Gap (Why? Why on Earth?). I imagine it was there for all ones plastic flower needs. Who could say? In its own strange way, it was not incongruent, but it was absurd.
There is a plastic-flower store down the street from me. They put an ad in the local rag when a new shipment of “flowers” comes in. They do a good business, keeping the bone yards looking like spring year round. Kind of goes with the Christmas lights lining the drive at the yard on the way to work. One of these days, I’m going in there and I mean to take a few pictures of the absurd.
A great photo project, photographing the absurd. 10 years from now when you tell people, they won’t believe it. People sure do have some strange customs. I guess they make sense to them. As long as one can go to their Happy Place to feel comfortable, the world is grand. Nothing wrong with that I suppose. However, Happy Places sure can be funny!
P.S. Doesn’t a spring like boneyard look absurd covered in snow? Incongruent, even? It shur does luuk preddy though.
