I am at a bit of a loss which technique you use to photograph flowers, putting the background into dark and getting good exposure on the flower. Can you please explain the steps you use to get these great flower pictures?
It does look a bit like a carnation, but is larger. It has a sweet aroma, nothing too heavy. I’m not sure what these are called in English, unfortunately. Translated it is “Pentacost flower.”
I the Nikon D40 on a very heavy old tripod, and a black cloth as a background sometimes. I move things around for the available morning light, and expose for the highlights. I recently started shooting in RAW format. Amazing what you can do with this, compared to the standard .jpeg
I might shoot 50 or 60 pictures, keeping one or two. Then I go into PSE 7 and alter things until I get what I am after.
This one picture of the lily I did use the on-camera flash and partially blocked it with my free hand. I am willing to try anything to get what I am looking for, which in this case is an old painterly effect.
It almost looks like a carnation. Does it have a pleasant smell? How big is the flower?
