The Nobel Peace Prize was recently and surprisingly awarded to Barack Obama. Everyone has their own opinion on this. Al Gore, former U.S. Vice President and 2007 Nobel Peace Prize winner, said it was “extremely well deserved.” I have a different opinion.
I think this year’s award is the Nobel Committee’s attempt to influence American policy on one or more issues, such as Afghanistan or the detainees in Guantanamo, Cuba. Obama is smart enough to know he has not done anything worthy of this (formerly) prestigious award. I just hope he’s smart enough not to succumb to Norwegian political bribery.
They did him no favors by awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize. Clearly, this is an embarrassment which only gives his enemies traction. However, I will take Obama on his worst days rather than go back to the leadership we had for eight years prior to his presidency. It’s time for Obama to produce something tangible …and soon. The honeymoon is over.
One opinion I’ve heard is Obama received this award for not being George Bush. Yes the honeymoon, if there ever was one, is over. But still I take exception to a bunch of “Oofta’s” attempt to manipulate American policy.
I think the Nord’s miscalculated. Because Obama is an intellectual and popular, rather than a buffoon and national disgrace, they gave him the award.
People in Brazil and South America LOVE Obama, and I think the sentiment in Europe is the same. I think the conservatives in Israel wish George Bush were still in power, but the rest of the Middle East likes Obama. This counts for something, but not this award, and, to his credit, Obama knows this.
