The “kuhzunge” is not well known outside of Baden-Württemberg. An ancient musical instrument made from a hollowed out and blackened cow’s tongue, it is played using a combination of squeezing and strumming.

Foggy Day

Fog gives a quality to the available light that can’t be duplicated. Today, the fog never lifted, though it threatened to several times. While set up with camera and tripod waiting for the fog to clear, a woman out walking her dog stopped to chat. She said if I was interested in landscapes, I should walk toward Zell a. E., a nearby town. I took her advise, and made this picture on the way.

Yesterday, the weather was cool and very windy at times. This chased the clouds in and out all afternoon. We caught a little rain a few minutes after taking this picture of two fields. One is plowed, the other planted with (I think) winter wheat. Both are ready for winter. I am not.

Barge on the Main River

The Main River is only a five-minute walk from here. It is an important waterway which flows into the Donau. The locks can accommodate ships up to 360 ft × 38 ft.

Knetzgau

Knetzgau is a relatively small and quiet community on the Main (rhymes with Rhein) River in the northern part of Bayern (Bavaria). It is about equidistant from Bamberg and Schweinfurt, and the A70 autobahn runs right by use here, making getting around very convenient. If I were looking for somewhere in Germany to retire, this would be it.
