The agriculture giant Monsanto is answering questions “about its marketing tactics in the biotech seed industry.” The Justice Department, along with Iowa and Texas, is investigating allegations Monsanto wants to control the industry, squeezing out smaller companies. DuPont (Remember “Better Living Through Chemistry“? It’s now “The miracles of science“) and Syngenta AG (“Bringing plant potential to life“) are Monsanto rivals and have been interviewed. Come on! DuPont surely understands business is war, and war is business. Justice can investigate all day Monsanto’s business practices, and may even find violations of law. This investigation is probably nothing more that a politically motivated attempt to shake a few more lobbying dollars out of a genetically modified tree. Then Congress can change the laws to make it right.
Any company is in business to make money. Altruism isn’t a corporate priority, only the appearance of doing good. All those smarmy adds about feeding the world only hide what should be obvious. As the world becomes dependent on a cheap, genetically modified food supply, that is all we’ll have. And when Monsanto is sitting on the only bag of seeds available, what will it cost?
Investigating whether they want to control the industry, squeezing out smaller companies? Of course they want to control the industry and squeeze out smaller companies. Just because competition is good for lowering prices, doesn’t mean it’s good for business …especially if it’s your business.
I have come to realize the best deceptions are the ones making something appear exactly the opposite of reality. Those that are good at them, along with functioning psychopaths, rise to the top.
As always, your ability to spot a shakedown is better than most.
I don’t know the half of it, but it seems clear the money is the thing. And what happens when the natural selection process is supplanted by genetic engineering? I doubt companies like Monsanto give much thought to the consequences, but even if they did, would they care?
Are you kidding me? Of course these companies don’t care. Remember when cigarette companies used to get medical doctors to endorse their product? “9 out of 10 doctors who smoke, smoke Marlboro.” …or something like that. I think we can tell by the financial meltdown companies …banks and others… frankly care less!
Bank looses money, government gives banks money, banks RAISE interest rates on consumers.
Profit drives the market. No profit, no business. “Helping” people is just weasel words used in ads.
